What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Botox Cosmetic® is an injectable treatment for wrinkles caused by repeated
movements. The area most commonly treated include:

  • Horizontal lines across the forehead
  • Crows feet
  • Lines between the brows
  • Bunny lines in nasal area

BOTOX® Procedure Details

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults.

FDA approved Botox® Cosmetic is one of the top requested treatments available. Botox temporarily relaxes the muscles, improving the appearance of moderate to severe crows feet, lines above and between the eyebrows.

Derived from sources that exist in nature

BOTOX® Cosmetic contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. Formulations, potency, and approved doses vary among botulinum toxin products, which means that one product cannot take the place of another. Those are a few reasons why there is no such thing as a “generic” form of BOTOX® Cosmetic. There have been no studies to support that other products are Unit-to-Unit equivalent to BOTOX® Cosmetic.

A treatment experienced by millions of people

Approximately 10.9 million vials of BOTOX® Cosmetic have been sold in the United States since 2002, and millions of people have already made BOTOX® Cosmetic a part of what they do for themselves. Today, BOTOX® Cosmetic is the #1 selling product of its kind in the world.

How did I get wrinkles?

Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.

BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Dr. Malek will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.

Where should I get BOTOX ® injections?

Dr. Malek has been performing Botox® Cosmetic injections since it was approved by the FDA in 2002. Since then, he as perfected the placement of the product to obtain the best results possible. Every patient evaluation discusses what options would be best for that individual. Each have different facial expression and function. Botox must to be injected into the proper muscle groups depending on the individual needs.

Please remember not all injectors are created equal. Dr. Malek is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who understands facial anatomy and creates natural and balanced results. While many practices tend to have nurse injectors, Dr. Malek himself evaluates and performs each treatment.

BOTOX® FAQ

  • IS BOTOX FOR ME?

If you desire a slight improvement in your look or a “cleaning up” of age-related wrinkles, BOTOX® Cosmetic may be for you. It has become a superb option for the patient hesitant to undergo surgery, yet wants to erase the deep creases and furrows of the face. By relaxing the muscles that cause these wrinkles, you can rid yourself of the heavy tension look or remove a misrepresented, tired and angry appearance. Patients appreciate its subtle improvement and are pleased when their acquaintances are not quite sure why they look better. Following treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic, you can expect to appear more relaxed and rested. BOTOX® Cosmetic is also commonly used to reduce the heavy vertical creases between the eyebrows, flatten deep forehead wrinkles, and smooth out the crow’s feet area of the eyes. Newer areas that are being treated include the age-defining wrinkles around the mouth, nose and the thick muscle bands of the neck.

  • IS BOTOX FDA APPROVED?

Yes, Botox Cosmetic® is approved for the temporary improvement of wrinkles between the eyebrows, known as glabellar lines as well as for crows feet, known as lateral canthal lines.

  • HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?

BOTOX Cosmetic® is a purified protein that blocks the release of a substance called acetylcholine. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe wrinkles to form creating a refreshed appearance.

  • WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY BOTOX TREATMENT?

Once you and Dr. Malek have decided that Botox is the best option for you, he will administer a number of injections into the muscles. The amount of Botox® Cosmetic used will depend on your individual needs and muscle activity.

  • HOW LONG DOES BOTOX LAST?

BOTOX® Cosmetic lasts on average 3-4 months. The treatment takes approximately one week to take full effect. Often, repeated treatments can lead to longer results.

  • DOES BOTOX HURT?

The injections are very small and done with an ultra fine needle. Most patients say it feels similar to a little pinch and are pleasantly surprised at what little if any discomfort they feel. At Dr. Malek’s office, we apply a topical anesthetic cream prior to injections.

  • ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS OF BOTOX?

BOTOX® targets and relaxes your facial muscles to keep them from creating wrinkles. Fillers smooth and fill in more severe wrinkles, restoring fullness and volume to the skin. Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport® and Xeomin® are quite similar. Both are a form of botulinum toxin type A and achieve similar results. The formulations do differ, so the potency and price per unit differ as well. Dr. Malek will help you decide which product would best suit your individual needs.

  • CAN BOTOX TREAT OTHER CONDITIONS?

Botox Cosmetic® is FDA approved for treatment of glabellar and lateral canthal lines. However, Botox Cosmetic® can be used to treat lines in other areas as well as also used to reduce excessive sweating known as hyperhidrosis and to relieve chronic migraines.

The cost of treatment is quite affordable. It varies widely, and a consultation can give you a specific amount. Botox is $14 per unit. Depending on the number of units recommended, the price can vary from $350 to $750.
