Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

Centre For Cosmetic Surgery

If extreme weight loss, gravity, aging, or pregnancy have caused your breasts to droop and sag, a breast lift can remove excess fat and skin from the breasts and tighten the surrounding tissue to reshape and support a more natural contour. A breast lift is often combined with breast augmentation surgery to increase both the firmness and size of the breasts. The nipples and areolas may also be re-positioned to create the most natural appearance possible.

 Breast Lift Procedure Details

In most cases, a breast lift surgery can be performed under general anesthesia. Beginning with an incision encircling the areola, women with smaller breasts and mild sagging may only require periareolar (doughnut) or circumvertical (lollipop) incisions. Excess skin or fat may be removed depending on the situation, and the nipple and areola will be relocated to a higher position. Women who have larger breasts and more severe case of sagging, may require anchor-shaped incisions. Although this is the more invasive method, it offers the best end result. Breast lift surgery can often be paired with breast implants and/or fat transfer to offer even more volume.

Breast Lift Recovery

Breast Lift patients will normally experience bruising, swelling, and soreness for the first few days. You can typically return to work in about a week, as long as it’s physically undemanding. Vigorous physical activities, including bending and lifting, should be avoided for up to 6 weeks, as they may complicate and slow recovery. You will also need to wear a compression garment or bra as this will minimize your discomfort, and prevent your incisions from opening up. Also, when you reduce the movement of your breasts, they are more likely to keep their new shape.

Breast Lift Faq

  • Am I a good candidate for a breast lift surgery?

Ideal candidates have realistic expectations for procedure, are in good medical health, can commit to proper recovery time, and experience any drooping or sagging of the breast due to extreme weight loss, gravity, aging, or pregnancy and desire a more contoured, shapely look.

  • Will a breast lift affect my ability to nurse, should I become pregnant?

Since the nipples and ducts remain complete, there should not be any problems, however it is not guaranteed.

  • How do I know if I need a breast lift versus breast implants?

Breast implants add volume to breasts and do not affect position unless paired with a breast lift. A breast lift will remove excess skin and make the breast perkier and correct sagging, but generally do not add volume. Fat transfer can also be an additional tool to help naturally shape these procedures. If you suffer from sagging breasts due to stretched skin, then a breast lift may be right for you. If you have smaller breasts, then implants may be right for you, but both should be discussed with Dr. Malek.

  • How much does a breast lift procedure cost?

Pricing varies based on body and skin types along with combined procedures performed. Please call or schedule a consultation for more information.
