Mons Pubis Reduction

An overly prominent mons pubis, the fatty area just over the pubic bone, can lead to physical discomfort and self-consciousness. Mons pubis surgery can help slim down a prominent mons pubis (sometimes referred to by the slang term “FUPA”) for a smoother, more discreet appearance. The mons pubis can become more pronounced due to weight gain or pregnancy-related changes in the body. However, some women may be genetically predisposed to a more visible mons pubis.

Mons Pubis Reduction | Liposuction

The mons pubis area is composed mainly of fat and, in some cases, lax skin. Liposuction of the mons pubis is a minimally invasive procedure in which the fat is suctioned from the mons pubis area, making it flatter and less prominent. At The Centre for Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Abdollah Malek uses tumescent liposuction, SmartLipo, Bodytite, or Vaser Liposuction to reduce the mons pubis through tiny incisions. Sometimes with liposuction alone, the mons area can improve drastically. However, depending on the grade of laxity will determine the technique chosen to treat the area.

Mons Pubis Lift | Liposuction + Skin Removal

Besides the development of excess fat, the skin and supportive structure of the mons may take on a lax, saggy look, often as part of the natural aging process. A mons lift, or Monsplasty with reduction and suspension, can restore a tighter, more youthful appearance to the mons. A full monsplasty takes this correction one step further by including the surgical removal of excess skin and tissue and eliminating fatty deposits via liposuction.

AVIVA | Minimally Invasive Mons Lift

Aviva by Inmode can also be used to improve the mons area. Aviva is a state-of-the-art small contraction device delivering functional and cosmetic benefits to external delicate tissues. Depending on the grade of laxity and excess tissue, The Centre for Cosmetic Surgery has many minimally invasive options to help reduce the appearance of heavy a mons pubis area. This is done by making 1cm incisions and using Radio Frequency to melt the stubborn fat and tighten the skin simultaneously.

Mons Pubis Reduction FAQ

  • What is a Mons Pubis Reduction?

Mons Pubis Reduction is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at reducing the size and bulk of the mons pubis, which is the fatty tissue over the pubic bone. This procedure can help achieve a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

  • Who is an ideal candidate for this procedure?

Ideal candidates are individuals who are bothered by the size of their mons pubis, which may be due to genetics, weight gain, aging, or childbirth. Patients should be in good health, have realistic expectations, and not smoke.

  • How is the procedure performed?

The procedure typically involves liposuction to remove excess fat from the mons pubis. In some cases, skin excision may also be necessary. It's performed under anesthesia and can take about 1-2 hours.

  • What is the recovery time?

Recovery times vary, but most patients can return to work within a week. Swelling and bruising are common and may take a few weeks to resolve. Strenuous activities should be avoided for about 4-6 weeks.

  • Are there any risks associated with Mons Pubis Reduction?

As with any surgery, there are risks such as infection, bleeding, scarring, and dissatisfaction with the results. Choosing a qualified and experienced surgeon can help minimize these risks. Dr. Malek's patients have a very high satisfaction rate, and he can discuss any concerns you may have in detail ahead of your procedure.

  • How long will the results last?

The results of a Mons Pubis Reduction are typically long-lasting. However, significant weight gain, aging, or hormonal changes can affect the outcome.

  • Will there be scarring?

There may be minimal scarring, but it is typically well-concealed. The incisions are small and every effort is made to minimize the appearance of scars.

  • How should I prepare for the surgery?

Every patient's situation is different, and you will receive specific instructions to prepare for your surgery at your intake appointment. Pre-surgery instructions may include stopping certain medications, arranging for someone to drive you home post-surgery, and fasting for a specific period before the procedure.

  • Can Mons Pubis Reduction be combined with other procedures?

Yes, it's often combined with other procedures like a tummy tuck or labiaplasty for more comprehensive results.

Am I a candidate?

Suppose you have felt self-conscious about the size or shape of your pubic mound. If you’re unhappy with changes in your mons following pregnancy or a fluctuation in weight, you may be a candidate for mons pubis surgery. It’s important to realize that mons pubis surgery will only improve the cosmetic appearance of your pubic area and will not impact sexual function. If one of your goals is to enhance sensation, Dr. Malek may recommend a clitoral hood reduction or G-spot enhancement in addition to mons pubis surgery.
