Aerolase® LightPod Era

Centre For Cosmetic Surgery

Era combines the precision of full-area erbium resurfacing with the minimal downtime of fractional resurfacing – resulting in better patient outcomes in just a single treatment. It precisely controls each pulses’ depth of ablation resulting in uniform penetration across the treated area and eliminates collateral damage to the surrounding tissue. This allows a unique, artistic approach to address each patient’s individual aging needs and to customize the treatment specifically to them. Era is the complete solution for resurfacing needs from superficial indications such as issues with tone, texture, and sun damage to deeper concerns such as crow’s feet, smoke wrinkles, and scar revision and everything in between.

Aerolase® LightPod Era Treatments

The LightPod Era offers profound ablative rejuvenation through the following treatments:

  • Blepharoplasty

The fast growing anti-aging market spans wide range of procedures including blepharoplasty, involving the removal of lax skin and fat deposits from the eyelids. A patient whose eyelids have progressed to this stage will typically also exhibit extensive signs of aging in the periorbital skin, in the form of wrinkles, sun and age spots, and other blemishes. The rejuvenation of this skin with the Era (Erbium) laser from Aerolase allows for ‘total periorbital rejuvenation’ with a more complete cosmetic enhancement as compared to blepharoplasty alone.

Although many have benefited from the affordable price of Era – as well as its compact, portable configuration and lack of required maintenance – it is the clinical advantages that attract many practitioners. The Era delivers 1,200 millijoules of 2940nm laser energy with optimized energy parameters of fluence, pulse width, spot size and speed to yield efficient, uniform skin ablation while avoiding collateral thermal damage. The laser’s unique collimated beam provides the convenience to work at any distance from the skin without making contact. The Era can also work in tight spots around the eyes and nose, even on the eyelids themselves in close proximity to the eyes.

It is compact and easy to use. It can be used for either superficial 'laser peels' as well as deeper resurfacing. Laser peel procedures have a brief recovery period while deeper resurfacing patients usually recover within several days. After these resurfacing procedures patients are pleased with the visible improvement and quick recovery. In addition to rejuvenating the aging skin tissue of the epidermis, the Era also stimulates long-term collagen remodeling in the deep dermal tissue, which can add a nice skin tightening effect to complement the surface improvements.

  • Cutaneous Lesions

Cutaneous lesions are skin growths that come in many shapes and sizes. Aerolase lasers offer ablative and non-ablative methods to precisely remove lesions while avoiding treatment scarring or collateral tissue damage commonly seen with other methods of removal.

The Era 2940nm erbium laser can be used to ablate or vaporize lesions, including flat or raised growths. This is a much more precise and controlled operation than traditional methods such as excision or cryotherapy, which can cause adjacent tissue damage and potential scarring. Clinical studies show that Era is safe and effective in removing numerous types of benign, pre-malignant and malignant cutaneous lesions including Seborrheic Keratosis, Actinic Keratosis, Lentigines, Epidermal Nevus, Benign Nevi, Xanthelasma, Syringomas, Sebaceous Hyperplasia, Warts, Melasma, Milia, Acrochordons, Dermatosis Papilosa Nigra, Hypertrophic Scars, Rhinophyma, Superficial Basal Cell Carcinoma, and Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Situ (Bowen’s Disease). With Era, cutaneous lesions are removed in one quick, minimally invasive treatment with low discomfort.

  • Gentle Resurfacing

The Era allows for full-field skin resurfacing with extreme precision and unparalleled control over depth of ablation. Due to its unique pulse parameters, the Era can treat fractional areas of the face at different depths in order to address each individuals’ needs of eliminating both superficial and deeper imperfections. Now, practitioners have complete artistic control over each patient’s treatment outcome in a single session without demarcation lines and with minimal downtime.

The Era’s precisely controlled pulses allow for controlled depth of ablation per pulse for full ablation of the epidermis without damaging the dermis, thus eliminating pinpoint bleeding that is typical for older erbium laser technology and C02 lasers. This offers a broad range of treatments between a safe for all skin type non-ablative mode, which renews the epidermis to improve tone and texture, to deep ablation for severely photodamaged skin that is affected with severe wrinkling, solar lentigines and/or actinic keratosis and other cutaneous lesions. Profound rejuvenation can be achieved in a single treatment session with minimal downtime as compared to multiple treatment sessions and multiple periods of downtime as seen with fractional technologies.

With the Era, the practitioner now has a single laser modality in a single handpiece that can effectively treat from the most deeply wrinkled, photodamaged skin to the most superficial irregularities for treatment of just a single aesthetic unit or complete facial coverage. Due to the Era’s precise control and gentler 300-microsecond pulse duration, the skin is able to cool between pulses to prevent thermal overheating and collateral damage often associated with C02 lasers or lasers equipped with scanners. Because of this, the Era is able treat a single aesthetic unit without leaving demarcation lines and eliminates the need for feathering the treatment area. Furthermore, published clinical data has shown that in comparison to traditional ablative technologies, the Era offers a shorter downtime, a higher therapeutic window and a lesser risk of complications such as pigmentary changes or scarring, which have been well documented with traditional ablative technologies.

  • Scars & Striae

The Era is used to ablate skin along incision lines, post-suturing, to minimize raised scar formation, and to resurface existing scar tissue. Era has also been proven to be very effective to minimize scar formation for traumatic scars as well.

Aerolase provides laser technology for two different methods of treating scars. For the treatment of incisions post-suturing, to minimize raised scar formation, the Era is used to ablate along the incision line; this promotes evenness of skin healing and the heat from the laser energy stimulates the formation of new collagen, further improving the surface texture and uniformity. For the treatment of existing scars, the Era can be used to reduce the raised scar tissue and improve texture, while theNeo is used to target pigment including red (vascularity) and brown (hyperpigmentation) to improve the cosmetic appearance of the scar.

Aerolase® LightPod Era Features & Benefits

  • Complete Artistic Control - each patient's individual anti-aging concerns is addressed by enabling tailored treatment for both deep and superficial indications without demarcation lines.
