Xeomin®

A Highly Purified Neurotoxin

The active ingredient in XEOMIN is a type of botulinum toxin called incobotulinumtoxinA. Merz, the maker of XEOMIN, uses a proprietary purification process to remove accessory proteins from botulinum toxin A to make XEOMIN. Being FDA approved, Xeomin can be used both on-label and off-label to treat the same facial lines treated by Botox and Dysport, including frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles.

How It Works

Frown lines form when facial expressions are made as the muscle under the skin contracts. Over time, as your skin ages, these repeated expressions cause lasting frown lines. Neurotoxins, such as XEOMIN®, are prescription medications that block the release of chemicals that cause these muscle contractions. So frown lines are softened.

FAQ

If you desire a slight improvement in your look or a “cleaning up” of age-related wrinkles, XEOMIN® Cosmetic may be for you. It has become a superb option for the patient hesitant to undergo surgery, yet wants to erase the deep creases and furrows of the face. By relaxing the muscles that cause these wrinkles, you can rid yourself of the heavy tension look or remove a misrepresented, tired and angry appearance. Patients appreciate its subtle improvement and are pleased when their acquaintances are not quite sure why they look better. Following treatment with XEOMIN®, you can expect to appear more relaxed and rested. The only way to know for sure if Xeomin is right for you, is to schedule a consultation.
Botulinum toxin type A is a neurotoxin, and when injected into muscles, this neurotoxin helps relax them by blocking signals from the nerves that can cause the muscles to contract.
XEOMIN is injected directly into the affected muscles. Your doctor will decide how many muscles need to be injected and the dose per muscle. For most people, the first effects of XEOMIN are typically seen within 7 days. Everyone is different, so you should talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about your treatment process.
The effects of XEOMIN usually last about 12 weeks, but may last significantly longer or shorter in individual patients.
XEOMIN® may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Get medical help right away if you have any of these problems anytime (hours to week) after treatment with XEOMIN®: Seizure, Nasopharyngitis, Dry mouth, Upper respiratory tract infection, Drooping eyelid, Dry eye, Diarrhea, Headache, Visual impairment, Difficult or labored breathing, Inflammation of mucus membranes, Respiratory infections, Difficulty swallowing, Injection site pain, Neck pain, Muscle weakness, and Muscle/joint pain.
Once Xeomin is decided to be the best option for you, Dr. Malek will administer a number of injections into the muscles. The amount of XEOMIN® used will depend on your individual needs and muscle activity.
The injections are very small and done with an ultra-fine needle. Most patients say it feels similar to a little pinch and are pleasantly surprised at what little if any discomfort they feel. We apply a topical anesthetic cream prior to injections.
Botox Cosmetic®, Xeomin®, and Dysport® are quite similar. All are a form of botulinum toxin type A and achieve similar results. The formulations do differ, so the potency and price per unit differ as well. Dr. Malek will help you decide which product would best suit your individual needs.
XEOMIN® targets and relaxes your facial muscles to keep them from creating wrinkles. Fillers smooth and fill in more severe wrinkles, restoring fullness and volume to the skin. XEOMIN® is both a corrective and preventive measure against future facial lines and a way to correct existing lines.
Pricing varies based on the amount of injectable required to reach desired results, along with number of combined procedures performed. Please call or schedule a consultation for more information.
