Understanding Mons Pubis Reduction
The mons pubis is the fatty area located just above the pubic bone. For some women, this area becomes more pronounced over time due to factors such as weight gain, pregnancy-related changes, or the natural aging process. For others, genetics may play a role in creating a more visible mons pubis from an early age, regardless of body weight or lifestyle.
When the mons pubis is enlarged, it can create physical discomfort in fitted clothing, swimwear, or during activities like exercise and intimacy. Beyond the physical concerns, many women also struggle with self-consciousness or frustration about the way the area looks. What is Mons Pubis Reduction?
Mons pubis reduction, sometimes casually referred to as addressing a “FUPA,” is a cosmetic procedure designed to create a slimmer, smoother, and more proportionate appearance of the pubic region. Depending on the patient’s anatomy and degree of excess tissue, the procedure may involve liposuction alone, or a combination of liposuction with skin removal and lifting (monsplasty).

The mons pubis area is composed mainly of fat and, in some cases, lax skin. Liposuction of the mons pubis is a minimally invasive procedure in which the fat is suctioned from the mons pubis area, making it flatter and less prominent. At The Centre for Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Abdollah Malek uses tumescent liposuction, SmartLipo, Bodytite, or Vaser Liposuction to reduce the mons pubis through tiny incisions. Sometimes with liposuction alone, the mons area can improve drastically. However, depending on the grade of laxity will determine the technique chosen to treat the area.
Mons Pubis Lift with Liposuction and Skin Removal
Besides the development of excess fat, the skin and supportive structure of the mons may take on a lax, saggy look, often as part of the natural aging process. A mons lift, or Monsplasty with reduction and suspension, can restore a tighter, more youthful appearance to the mons. A full monsplasty takes this correction one step further by including the surgical removal of excess skin and tissue and eliminating fatty deposits via liposuction.
