Understanding Labiaplasty
There is no “normal” vagina or vulva (the external tissue surrounding the vaginal opening). Some women are unhappy with the size, shape, or look of their inner labia (inner vaginal lips). Aging, genetics, and childbirth can all affect a woman’s physical comfort and diminish the visual appeal of the labia minora and labia majora. Labia that are enlarged, long, or asymmetrical can cause embarrassment and even physical irritation.
What is the purpose of a Labiaplasty?
The anatomy of the external female genitalia can vary significantly for each woman. Labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation procedures restore the appearance and tightness of the vaginal area. Like any surgical procedure, labiaplasty requires a short recovery period to ensure proper healing and the best results. Most patients find the process manageable with only mild discomfort and swelling, and recovery tends to be quicker than with many other cosmetic surgeries. By following post-operative guidelines, patients can return to normal routines fairly quickly while protecting the delicate surgical area.
- Resting on the day of surgery is recommended.
- Patients may experience minor discomfort and mild swelling.
- Patients should abstain from sexual activity for 6-8 weeks due to the sensitivity of the repair.
